Damage Theft Loss
Please read the Chromebook Handbook and Student Laptop Agreement for full details of students' and parents' responsibilities for loss, damage, and theft of assigned Chromebooks. The following are highlights.
General
Students and parents are responsible for cooperating with MCPSS in the recovery, repair, or replacement of damaged, lost, or stolen Chromebooks.
Students are responsible for maintaining a working Chromebook at all times and should use reasonable care to prevent loss, damage, or theft.
Reporting
Report loss, theft, or damage as soon as possible:
Grade K-5 students report to classroom teacher
Grade 6-12 students report to school's library/ media center
Damage
Warranty Repairs - If the school or district determines that damage is the result of an equipment failure covered by a warranty, the warranty will apply and the student and parents will not be responsible for the cost of repairs.
Accidental Damage - If the damage is found to be accidental, there will be a $25 charge for the cost of the first repair each school year. If subsequent repairs are required during the same school year, the student will be responsible for the full cost of the replacement parts and labor, not to exceed $250 per repair. If the Chromebook is damaged beyond repair, the student will be responsible for a replacement cost of $250.00.
Negligence/Intentional Damage - If the damage is the result of a student’s negligence or intentional destruction, the student will be responsible for the full cost of the repair or replacement of the equipment according to the MCPSS’s cost share program.
Loss
If the Chromebook is lost, you will be required to pay in full for the replacement of the equipment according to the MCPSS’s cost share program.
Theft
If the Chromebook is stolen, the student will be responsible for a replacement cost of $250.00.
Repair Fees
Repair Fee – total cost of fees determined by the cost of the replacement parts 7 April 2021
1st Repair – 100% district / 0% student
2nd Repair – 100% district / 0% student)
3rd Repair – 50% district / 50% student)
4th Repair – Replace device – 100% student cost/responsibility (cost determined by the district )
